The Climate Change Coalition Online Community Manager will use web 2.0 technologies to build and foster the development of an online community for a national coalition of aquariums communicating about climate change and the ocean. Develop a resource bank of tools for coalition members to support their work communicating the impact of climate change on the ocean to visitors. Serve as the community manager for the coalition members, motivating, encouraging, connecting, and supporting them. With the MBA web team, other staff and consultants, evaluate and adapt the online portal as needed to improve its value. With MBA staff and consultants, develop, manage, and disseminate evaluation on the health of the online community

With the MBA web team and NOAA grant PIs, the Climate Change Coalition Online Community Manager will investigate new technologies and the feasibility of integrating them into the climate change coalition online portal. Design and maintain an active coalition online community and web portal using creative technologies and strong communication skills. Assist in technology training and provide ongoing technology support to staff and coalition members. With outside experts and staff, evaluate the use of technological tools by coalition members. Participate in planning meetings, actively, thoughtfully, creatively and constructively. Maintain professional standards and priorities consistent with the Aquarium’s mission, values, guiding principles, strategies, imperatives and annual goals.

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Strong writing skills, capable of engaging coalition members and building online community.
  • Demonstrated ability to support online communities, whether professionally or personally.
  • Experience with podcasting, blogging, online communities, digital imaging and film editing, and website evaluation; experience with both PC and Mac platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: versatile, self-confident, cooperative, courteous and open-minded.
  • Strong work ethic: self-motivated, organized, flexible and able to work well independently and with a team.
  • A bachelor’s degree and strong recommendations from peers and supervisors verifying professional competence.
