The Press Democrat, a New York Times Company, is looking for an Online Community Coordinator to join our Online Department. The main objective of this position is to create and manage community-generated content and construct a network of community voices. You will be working with community bloggers, social networking programs, web-aggregate modules, and Press Democrat staff-produced content, as well as providing original community-based content, all of which will be used across our various Web sites, including pressdemocrat.com and our hyperlocal town-based sites. The ideal candidate is someone who is eager to be creative in the rapidly-changing media landscape, is a strong team player, and has excellent communication skills. Solid news judgment, a sense for what drives traffic and local interest, and a willingness to innovate and experiment are musts. You’ll be working with a highly-focused, skilled online team as well as an award-winning newsroom. Your role will be one of assisting with developing new content, new voices and new products, all to advance the Press Democrat’s longstanding mission as the leading news and information source for the North Bay region. Strong familiarity with social networking programs, wikis and similar programs is preferred. Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Help build out niche sites

• Create original content when appropriate

• Monitor/edit contributors’ expected submissions (reviews, features, stories, blog posts, etc.)

• Work with colleagues on new and ongoing digital-media projects

• Manage routine communication with contributors

• Add appropriate formatting to features and other content (including hyperlinks, writing blurbs, teases, and using best headline practices for the Web)

Requirements and specifications for the job: • Bachelor’s degree

• At least 3 years of work experience in a Web environment and/or media company

• Experience with various CMS systems

• Web 2.0 knowledge

• Social media, blogging experience

• Ability to deal strict deadlines

• Ability to multi-task and edit on the fly
